Description
Our greatest motivation is to keep our ceramics department as vibrant as possible and to inspire students to get excited about art. We carefully plan all our activities and take the ceramics club seriously as a whole department. For this reason, we aim to organize activities nearly twice a month. These include artist invitations, demonstrations, or workshops that allow students to engage more with clay, such as making coffee cups or bowls. Of course, students who are interested can also explore ceramic sculpture. The number of students choosing ceramics as an elective course is growing, and we are thrilled to witness this!
Ceramics Club at UMass Dartmouth:
As a ceramics club, we invite all students to take an interest in art. How do we do this? Sometimes, we invite contemporary artists to our school to motivate and inspire students. We also organize workshops where students can get more involved with clay, learn through hands-on experience, and socialize in the process. Additionally, we arrange special trips for club members. For example, last year, both undergraduate and graduate students, not necessarily ceramics students but members of the club, attended the Armory Show in New York City, with their tickets covered by the club. While visiting the exhibitions in New York, we ate, laughed, and had fun! This is what it means to be a university student! In September, we organized a creative activity called 'Coffee and Clay.' This event was free for students, but for participants from outside the university, we offered it for a fee. We made coffee cups together while drinking coffee and chatting. As a result, people who were once just passing by on campus may have become friends, and they had the chance to see our ceramics, painting and fibers studios in the Art and Design studios. They stepped outside their own departments for a while, discovering new places and meeting new people.
Why are donations necessary?
Donations to the Ceramics Club will help fund new equipment for students and scholarships for students to attend conferences and workshops.
