Description:

The Marine Science Student Association represents current and future students at UMassD's School for Marine Science and Technology and the Intercampus Marine Sciences graduate program.

Our impact:

Our organization hosts events for students interested in marine science at UMassD and through the entire UMass Intercampus Marine Sciences graduate program. Our main purpose is to serve as a liaison between the SMAST graduate student body and the SMAST, IMS, and UMass Dartmouth administrations, encourage communication about marine science and technology among the students, faculty, and staff of SMAST, professionals in marine science and oceanography and the wider New England community and provide advice and support to incoming SMAST students during orientation, as well as to current and prospective students.

Why are donations necessary?

We have a variety of plans to use these funds. We are hoping to have a full semester/year of events for new and returning students interested in marine science. - Social events to create a welcoming environment and create a sense of community among students interested in marine science. - Networking/alumni event to allow students to make lasting connections with professionals and marine science alumni that could lead to future collaborations or employment opportunities - Peer to peer skills workshop to help students learn valuable skills from other students that might not be taught in a classroom setting (i.e. knot tying, programming quick tips, etc.) - Facilitate field trips to marine science institutions in the area.
