Description
The UMass Dartmouth Model United Nations (Model UN) Club is an organization that seeks to educate students about global politics and the international political systems within the United Nations through an experiential learning model of simulation and total immersion. Students spend months practicing and researching international political protocol and the unique qualities of one of the 193 United Nations countries in order to simulate said country within competitive academic conferences, mainly the National Model United Nations (NMUN) Conference Circuit.
Model UN at UMass Dartmouth
With over 10 years of success in the National Model United Nations circuit, UMass Dartmouth's MUN team is recognized for excellence and commitment to accuracy. Our team has carried UMass Dartmouth’s name to success in cities like Washington D.C. and New York, and more recently, we have entered the international circuit and have represented UMass Dartmouth in Erfurt, Germany. We have also been able to support an enlarged delegation of 24 students, including Japanese exchange students from Tokyo and Okinawa.
Our crowdfunding efforts will support:
With your support, we hope to continue to expand our activities and UMass Dartmouth’s presence at these domestic and international conferences. Donations to this campaign will go directly into funding our New York conference, where we hope to expand our delegation size from 16, to 24 students. We will need these funds by February 1st, 2025. Additionally, we wish to host a one-day Model UN conference, titled CorsairMUN, and invite 150 regional high school students to engage in international diplomacy and debate on global issues. This event will foster political engagement among our next generation of leaders in the Southcoast and Greater New England Area, as well as help to develop their public speaking, leadership, and negotiation skills, providing a transformative and memorable educational experience. This conference will mark our expansion into the regional arena, building upon our reputation, and introducing local high school students to the wonderful things that UMass Dartmouth has in-store for them should they choose to attend. We will need these funds by January 1st, 2025. As we aim to fund CorsairMUN through external support fully, your contribution is pivotal in bringing this ambitious event to life. We also seek partnerships with university departments and campus offices to provide additional, essential resources. Following our success at the international conference in Erfurt, Germany, we also aim to send teams to future international conferences, including the next one in Banff, Canada. Further donations will go towards providing our students with cheaper entry access to these conferences, financial support in acquiring business attire needed to compete, and merchandise to allow our students and their families to express their support for our school and its MUN team!
Why are donations necessary?
Your generous support will enable our students to engage with global issues, hone professional skills, and represent UMass Dartmouth on the international stage. Our participation in NMUN has led students to successful careers in Americorps, Embassy work, and Congressional involvement. Model UN will stay committed to developing our future leaders, and we hope that you will consider donating to assist us in this endeavor. Thank you! Why Invest? -Youth Development: Help nurture future leaders and decision-makers through this skill-building platform. - Education at All-Levels: Showcase your commitment to community development and education at both the high school and college level. Your support will drive the success of our CorsairMUN High School Conference. -UMass Representation: Your support will help enhance the presence of UMass Dartmouth and national and international conferences, allowing more students to engage with students and faculty from around the nation and around the world. - A Memory of a Lifetime: Our students always say that Model United Nations was one of, if not the best part of their college experience. We have had students make friends with people in nearly every region of the Earth. Our conferences range from 3 days to 1 week, and in that time, our students make memories that will last them a lifetime.
