The UMass Dartmouth National Art Education Association (NAEA) Preservice Division is a group of students striving to support young educators through creative professional development, arts activities on campus, and general engagement in the arts. The overall goal of the student chapter is to raise money for club members to attend the NAEA’s national convention obtaining knowledge, interacting with peers and scholars on a national level, and potentially presenting research in art education. It is extremely important to note the Preservice Division is not just for art educators all pre-service educators are welcome! Art is connected to everything! Great teachers are not shy about using creative practices in their professional practices and we strive to learn about and engage with best practices in art education. We also work to show how art education connects to other educational topics and career paths beyond a K-12 classroom setting through our activities and events. We believe that art education is the secret power to stronger communities.
NAEA Preservice Division at UMass Dartmouth:
The NAEA Preservice Division at UMass Dartmouth prepares future art teachers through a blend of hands-on teaching experiences and professional development. Students engage in fieldwork with local schools and community programs as academically enriching and preparatory experiences. Students apply what they learn in real classrooms. The division also hosts workshops and guest lectures fostering creativity and collaboration within the UMassD community. These activities ensure future educators in and out of art education have opportunities to become well-equipped to inspire and lead in diverse educational environments.
